New book: “Theorie des rationalen Bauherrn”

In July 2026, Rieck Verlag published “Theorie des rationalen Bauherrn” (Theory of the Rational Project Owner), co-authored by Friedrich Prem, Dr. Christoph Pfeiffer and Prof. Dr. Christian Rieck (214 pages, ISBN 978-3-69142-201-6, German).

Its central thesis: many major projects fail not on the construction site but long before – in how project owners organise their projects, delegate responsibility and design incentive systems. Building on principal-agent theory, the book develops an approach proven in numerous major projects that makes the owner the strongest force in the project through rational decisions.

The book applies the same game-theoretic thinking that underpins our procurement consulting to the organisation of major projects.
